cpu no power

Where the electric cable plugs into, that is the power supply.  When you open up the computer (unplugg the power first), you see it in the upper left hand corner, a silver box as big as 3 cigar boxes.

Hi Pat:

It sounds like you need a new power supply. Costs about $30 - $42 without labor.  Please bring the old power supply with you to buy the new one. To put in a new power supply should not take more than 20 minutes.

I have a E Machine only 2 yrs old with Wiindows XP and there was nothing wrong with it.  But the next day I went to turn it on and it won't turn on.  Can I fix it myself with a little help.  I am a technical person with help.  I can't afford to have a CPU store fix it.  Is this major or not.   I had no problems or virus before.  Help  Thanks.   Pat Tatro
