Hi there:

every piece of hardware has a software driver installed, called a "driver".  The driver handles and controls the hardware for windows.

You have to install or upgrade the driver.  In order to do so you need the model name of your computer or the model name of your video card.  Then you look up the driver on google by typing in the model name and download it.  There is also a third way http://drivershq.com. It check all drivers on your computer, lists the ones which you need to update and you can download them with one click.

To check if the video driver is functional right click my computer > properties > hardware > device manager. There you see all your hardware listed. If it has a yellow exclamation mark or some hardware is listed under "unknown devices" you have to install the drivers for that hardware.

A lot of problems can be remedied immediately by going to http://www.windowsupdates.com. You need all the express updates, but once you are done click on custom updates and see if you find anything under hardware.

If you buy a new graphics card, make sure that it supports Windows ME. A good place to get the best deal is http://www.pricegrabber.com

Since you are new at this I recommend http://www.drivershq.com because it is all automatic. I also use them, because it solve the problem the fastest way. Please do not forget your windows updates they are essential to have a smile on your face.

I know this is a lot of information, but once you work your way through and get a feeling for it, it will all make sense.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
